Tepoztlan

We arrived in quiet mountain town Tepozlan after a quick hour and a half bus ride. It reminded me of the little towns hidden in the mountains in Taiwan.

We began walking down a long street toward the mountain which has a small pyramid perched atop it.

Abercrombie and Fitch!

An avocado tree

We went to a market for lunch. It was filled with fresh vegetables and colours galore.

Behind the scenes of the place we ate lunch.

A huitlacoche quesadilla. It's a black fungus that grows on corn, and it even tastes like corn.

Itacates - a fried bread-y little pocket specific to the area.

A refreshing glass of chie (sounds like shia) with lime and seeds.

A bean and seed mural near a market.

They have really cheap massages in Tepozlan.

Down the street and at the top of the mountain - that's where we were headed.

A dead person is inside this tomb.

And so we began a long, steep climb to the top of the mountain...

I think it took about an hour or more to get to the top. A lot of stone, steps, and mountain. What a long journey to get to the top. That explained why there weren't very many people at the attraction.

At the top we spotted a friendly ___________. It was approaching us without fear and ravenously accepted a mango from my friend.

Finally! we reached the pyramid. It wasn't spectacular, but the location is worth the trip if you can handle the climb.

We began our walking trip all the way across town, in front of those other mountains.

We stopped for micheladas and pulque afterward.

In Mexico people give you a nickname according to your appearance - gordo (fat), flaco (thin), wero (white), and moreno (brown) for example. The guy in the hat called me a 'wera' which is funny because my skin has become so tanned and I think I don't look very white at all.

  1. What a long trek! The views are amazing! I think that is a coati (coatimundi) which is a member of the racoon family. That says it all. And no, I have never seen you less wera.
